Our goals and vision for Geobase

Published Mar 21, 2024 by Geobase Team

If you're reading this it's very likely that you're looking at our pre-launch website.

You were probably hoping to see more details about a specific topic, so we're sorry for the inconvenience. We're working hard to get everything ready for you. In the meantime, we'd like to share our vision and goals for Geobase.

The current state of things

The geospatial industry is a fascinating and rapidly evolving field, with its intricate blend of cutting-edge technology, diverse data sources, and deep geographic principles. It's the driving force behind critical decisions in urban planning, environmental conservation, global logistics, and so much more.

However, for many aspiring professionals and organizations, entering this domain has traditionally been a daunting task. The high costs, closed formats and technologies, and steep learning curve have often gated access to this influential industry.

Our mission is to make geospatial tools and services more accessible to a broader audience. We believe that everyone should have the power to leverage the insights and capabilities that geospatial data and analysis can provide.

Extending Supabase

By building Geobase on top of the robust Supabase platform, we're able to offer a seamless and scalable geospatial solution that puts the power of spatial data and analytics in the hands of our users without the need to manage complex (and costly) server setups. Whether you're a small startup, a non-profit organization, or a large enterprise, Geobase is designed to empower you to unlock the full potential of geospatial data with your favorite tools and frameworks.

Extensions

We're building a set of extensions that will allow you to easily integrate Geobase with your existing workflows and applications. These extensions will provide a wide range of geospatial capabilities, such as geocoding, routing, spatial analysis, and visualization, that you can use to enhance your projects and make better decisions.

Pricing

We're following the pricing model of Supabase without compromising our own finance and sustainability. We're a bootstrapped team that has been consulting for more than a decade. This means that it's currently hard for us to offer a free tier or cheaper pricing. This doesn't mean that we're not going to offer a free tier in the future. We're also chatting about offering a self-hosted version of Geobase in the future. Having said that here is an overview of the different tiers and our logic behind the pricing.

Tiers

Working with enterprise projects

We're also working on a set of features that will make it easier for you to manage and scale your geospatial projects. This includes support for multi-tenancy, advanced security features, and integration with enterprise systems. Whether you're building a small web app or a large-scale geospatial platform, Geobase is designed to grow with you and meet your evolving needs.

Third-party integrations

A big part of geospatial development is dealing with huge amounts of data. Your typical postgres database can handle a large amount of data, but in some cases that will not be enough. Making sure you can work with your data in a performant way is crucial. That's why we're focused on shipping out-of-the-box integration with Google BigQuery, DuckDB, and Snowflake.

Given the vast amount of data types, formats, and sources available, it's essential to have a flexible and extensible platform that can seamlessly integrate with third-party tools and services. Geobase is designed to be an open and interoperable platform that can easily connect with a wide range of data sources, APIs, and libraries. This enables you to leverage the full power of geospatial data and analysis in your existing workflows and applications.

AI

Artificial intelligence is a key component of modern geospatial analysis. It enables us to extract valuable insights from vast amounts of geospatial data, automate complex processes, and make more informed decisions.

Blueprints, templates, and tutorials

We want to provide a comprehensive set of resources to help you get started with Geobase and accelerate your geospatial projects. This includes blueprints, templates, and tutorials that cover a wide range of use cases, industries, and technologies. Whether you're a seasoned geospatial professional or a complete beginner, these resources are designed to help you quickly get up to speed with Geobase and start building amazing geospatial applications.

Not only does this save time, but it also helps you learn best practices, avoid common pitfalls, and discover new ways to leverage the full power of geospatial data and analysis. We're committed to providing high-quality, up-to-date resources that empower you to succeed with Geobase and achieve your geospatial goals.
